Reflection on our campaign

For the past few weeks, my group did a campaign about food waste specifically in our school. We made cards with catchy slogans written on them and stuck them onto the cafeteria tables so that students can rethink their choice about wasting food. We also made posters about food waste and stuck them along the cafeteria walls so that students can look and read them as they eat their lunch. Lastly, we made a short video that showed how much our school wasted as a unit and also compared our standards of living with other countries that suffer from severe famine to help students realize how lucky we are and that we should appreciate food and stop wasting. I learnt more details about food waste and how severe it was because I knew food waste was a problem but I didn’t know it was that serious around the world. I learnt the details by going to food waste websites and making the video made me realize how much food was wasted inĀ total. I struggled with the slogan cards that we stuck on the cafeteria tables because it was a bit too late since students would have already gotten their food and sat themselves down before reading the actual slogans and therefore, would not have been successful in telling the cafeteria ladies what they wanted and what they did not want as to stop wasting. To solve this problem we stuck some slogan cards on the outside cafeteria walls and also the doors so that students can read them before they even reach the cafeteria line and take their food. I think that we did the video particularly well because we made sure that the majority of students can read the facts and also we made sure there were sharp contrasts in situations comparing us with other kids that experience famine. However I think we can improve on the positions of where we put our products if we ever do our next campaign and make the posters more larger so that they are more eye catching.
