Unit 2 Communication

In our second unit of language arts, we learnt about the ways that media can persuade people and manipulate what they believe into what they want people to believe. Recently, our class was required to do a project to communicate with people and persuade them. At the start of the project, my group members wanted to do our project about the people who we never really notice and take for granted, for example, the street cleaners. We planned to interview them but figured it to be rude so instead, we focused our project on a very real problem that is happening right now in our school, food waste. Every lunch time, unfinished food trays are left for the cleaners to dump, including the few food trays that had barely even been touched and still full with food. Furthermore, if we as a society became more aware and pro active, we would realize that the food that we take for granted is not always available. For example, the people in LEDCs (Less Economically Developed Countries) that starve because of theĀ lack of food. So to further awareness in food waste my group planned to:

1. Creating A4 sized cards with different messages about food waste which students can read along the way to getting their lunch and think about the food they are or aren’t about to waste.

2. Creating a video comparing our situation with the situation in LEDCs that will be displayed to students about food waste and why it should not be taken for granted and make them realize that food is a luxury.

3. Weighing the amount of food students waste everyday and make them realize through posters we will make.

4. Making stickers that will be awarded to kids when they finish their lunch so that they will be motivated to not waste their food.
